D. Elementary Minimum Time Requirements

  1. The elementary grades shall provide a foundation in fundamentals of the language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health, physical education, and cultural arts.

  2. Each grade level, grades one through eight, shall provide instruction aligned to state-approved Standard.

For grades 1-6, 150 minutes of instruction per week are required in health, music, arts, and crafts (LAC 28:CXV.2313.F).

The branches of spelling, reading, writing, drawing, arithmetic, geography, grammar, United States history, and health, including alcohol, tobacco, drug, and substance abuse prevention and education, shall be taught in every elementary school.
