Tennessee Administrative Rules and Regulations 0520-01-03-.05 State Academic Standard

(a) The State Board of Education shall adopt academic Standard for each subject area, grades kindergarten through twelve (12). The Standard shall specify learning expectations and include performance indicators. The approved Standard shall be the basis for planning instructional programs in each local school system.

Tennessee Administrative Rules and Regulations 0520-01-03-.06 Graduation Requirements

(a) High School Diploma.

    1. The following twenty-two (22) credits shall be required for graduation:
  • English language arts 4 credits

  • Mathematics 4 credits

  • Science 3 credits

  • Social Studies 3 credits

  • Physical Education and Wellness 1.5 credits

Tennessee Administrative Rules and Regulations 0520-01-03-.06 Graduation Requirements

Students must complete one-half (½) credit in physical education. This requirement may be met by substituting a documented and equivalent time of physical activity in marching band, JROTC, cheerleading, interscholastic athletics, school sponsored intramural athletics, and other areas approved by the local board of education.

(1) Graduation Requirements - All students will have access to a rigorous education that will prepare them for success in postsecondary and the workforce. All coursework should be aligned to the Tennessee Academic Standard for that subject.
