South Carolina - Educator Performance Evaluation: Educator Evaluation Authority

Educator Evaluation Authority
Policy Type:
Year Adopted:

State Board of Education has full authority to adopt educator evaluations.

ADEPT is South Carolina's system for assisting, developing, and evaluating professional teaching. Based on state expectations (i.e., the ADEPT Performance Standards) that are aligned with nationally recognized professional standards, the ADEPT system forms a seamless continuum for educators throughout the entirety of their careers. On June 11, 2014, the State Board of Education approved this new educator evaluation system. Local education agencies (LEAs) had the option of continuing to use the current ADEPT evaluation tool (SAFE-T) for one last year, or one of the two pilot rubrics, South Carolina Teaching Standards or Enhanced ADEPT, or any other pre-approved rubric via the normal SCDE waiver process. Teachers in tested grades and subjects, will engage in the roster verification process to initiate the first year of the 3-year rolling average for calculating value-added scores. Districts have until January 30, 2015 to present their 20% student growth choice recommendation to the SCDE and get them approved for use in 2015-2016.
