Louisiana - School nurse availability: Standard

State law addresses school nurses in one of the following ways:• At least 1 nurse will be available throughout the district, but not in every school• At least 1 nurse will be available, but not across all grades• School nurses are available on campus, but not every day or not at all times during the school day• School district is required to employ a school nurse, but not each individual school

Louisiana Administrative Code Title 28 Part CXV §503. Staff Organization

Each LEA shall be required to employ certified personnel as required by state/federal law:

    1. superintendent;
    1. special education supervisor;
    1. title IX coordinator;
    1. child welfare and attendance supervisor;
    1. school nurse;
    1. school food services supervisor;
    1. business manager

Louisiana Revised Statutes §17:28. Certified school nurses; city and parish school systems; plan development, adoption, and implementation

Each city and parish school system shall employ at least one school nurse certified by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education but shall not exceed a statewide average of one certified school nurse for each one thousand five hundred students.
