State law requires that food and beverages sold outside of school meal programs meet federal Smart Snacks nutrition standards.

Indiana Code 20-26-9-18.5 Food and beverage nutritional requirements

Sec. 18.5. All food and beverages, other than meals reimbursed under programs authorized by the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act and the Child Nutritional Act of 1966 (42 U.S.C. 1751 et seq.) that are available for sale to students at school during the school day must meet or exceed the nutrition requirements prescribed for such food and beverages by the United States Secretary of Agriculture under 7 CFR 210.11.
