State law recommends newly hired staff who teach HE be certified, licensed, or endorsed by the state in HE.

Contemporary Health (9-12)

Licensure Requirements

Beginning with Academic Year 2013-2014, academic education Contemporary Health (9-12) teachers will be required to hold one of these two educator licenses: 142 Health Education (7-12) or 143 Health Education (K-12).

Mississippi Administrative Code 7-3-38.12 Physical Education/Comprehensive Health Education Rules and Regulations

a. Successful implementation of Physical Education and Comprehensive Health Education must include the following:

  • i. 1/2 Carnegie unit of physical education provided by staff that possess a valid 9-12 teaching license with a physical education endorsement (See Waivers/Exemptions in Appendix, item 11.)
  • ii. Mississippi Public School Accountability Standard require 1/2 Carnegie unit requirement for health education provided by staff that possess a valid 9-12 teaching license with a health education endorsement (See Waivers/Exemptions in Appendix, item 11.)
