Academic Standard for Health, Safety and Physical Education
The Academic Standard for Health, Safety and Physical Education describe what students should know and be able to do by the end of third, sixth, ninth and twelfth grade. The Standard are sequential across the grade levels and reflect the increasing complexity and rigor that students are expected to achieve

The board of school directors in every school district shall establish a curriculum aligned with Pennsylvania academic Standard on health, safety and physical education that, pursuant to 22 Pa. Code § 4.27 (relating to physical education and athletics), requires pupils enrolled in the district to participate in physical education.

(6) Health, safety and physical education. Study of concepts and skills which affect personal, family and community health and safety, nutrition, physical fitness, movement concepts and strategies, safety in physical activity settings, and leadership and cooperation in physical activities.

(c) Planned instruction aligned with academic Standard in the following areas shall be provided to every student in the high school program.
- (8) Health, safety and physical education, including instruction in concepts and skills which affect personal, family and community health and safety, nutrition, physical fitness, movement concepts, motor skill development, safety in physical activity settings, and the prevention of alcohol, chemical and tobacco abuse.
