Utah Administrative Code R277-400-11. School Carbon Monoxide Detection
(1) A new educational facility shall have a carbon monoxide detection system installed consistent with International Fire Code (IFC), Chapter 9, Sections 915 through 915.4.5. (2) An existing educational facility shall have a carbon monoxide detection system installed consistent with International Fire Code (IFC), Chapter 11, Section 1103.9. (3) Where required, an LEA shall provide a carbon monoxide detection system where a fuel-burning appliance, a fuel-burning fireplace, or a fuel-burning forced air furnace is present consistent with IFC 915.1. (4) An LEA shall install each carbon monoxide detection system consistent with NFPA 720 and the manufacturer's instructions, and listed systems as complying with UL 2034 and UL 2075. (5) An LEA shall install each carbon monoxide detection system in the locations specified in NFPA 720. (6) A combination carbon monoxide smoke detector is an acceptable alternative to a carbon monoxide detection system if the combination carbon monoxide/smoke detector is listed consistent with UL 2075 and UL 268. (7)
- (a) Each carbon monoxide detection system shall receive primary power from the building wiring if the wiring is served from a commercial source.
- (b) If primary power is interrupted, a battery shall provide each carbon monoxide detection system with power.
- (c) The wiring for a carbon monoxide detection system shall be permanent and without a disconnecting switch other than that required for over-current protection. (8) An LEA shall maintain all carbon monoxide detection systems consistent with IFC 915 and NFPA 720. (9) Performance-based alternative design of carbon monoxide detection systems is acceptable consistent with NFPA 720, Section 6.5.5.6. (10) An LEA shall monitor carbon monoxide detection systems remotely consistent with NFPA 720. (11) An LEA shall replace a carbon monoxide detection system that becomes inoperable or begins to produce end-of-life signals.
Utah Administrative Code R392-200-8. Construction and Maintenance of Physical Facilities.
(b) Storerooms or cabinets shall be provided for cleaning materials, pesticides, paints, flammables, or other hazardous or toxic chemicals, and for tools and maintenance equipment. Materials incompatible due to potential contamination or potential chemical reactions shall be separated from one another. These areas shall be kept locked and not used for any other purpose that is incompatible with the materials stored and shall comply with the fire code and any state amendments to the fire code that have been adopted by the Utah State Legislature.
Utah Code 63G-17-202. Air quality mitigation report and plan.
(1) Except as provided in Subsection (2), and in accordance with Subsection (3):
- (a) on or before July 1, 2013, each school district shall submit to the State Board of Education, by email, a report on the mitigation efforts currently being used by the school district;
- (b) on or before August 1, 2013:
- (i) the State Board of Education shall submit to the Economic Development Task Force, by email, a summary report of the reports received under Subsection (1)(a); and
- (ii) each agency shall submit to the Economic Development Task Force, by email, a report on the mitigation efforts currently being used by the agency;
- (c) on or before August 1, 2013, each school district shall develop and submit to the State Board of Education, by email, a plan that describes the mitigation efforts that the school district will implement, within one year after the day on which the plan is submitted, to:
- (i) reduce the emission of air pollutants on a regular basis; and
- (ii) reduce the emission of air pollutants on a day for which the Division of Air Quality issues an air quality action alert; and
- (d) on or before September 1, 2013:
- (i) the State Board of Education shall submit to the Economic Development Task Force, by email, a summary of the plans received under Subsection (1)(c); and
- (ii) each agency shall develop and submit to the Economic Development Task Force, by email, a plan that describes the mitigation efforts that the agency will implement within one year after the day on which the plan is submitted, to:
- (A) reduce the emission of air pollutants on a regular basis; and
- (B) reduce the emission of air pollutants on a day for which the Division of Air Quality issues an air quality action alert.
(2)
- (a) A school district is exempt from the provisions of this section if:
- (i) the school district is not, in whole or in part, within a designated county; and
- (ii) the school district’s employees do not reside within a designated county.
- (b) A report or plan that an agency is required to submit under this section is not required to contain information in relation to a designated county where an employee of the agency does not reside or work.
(3) A plan described in Subsection (1)(c) or (d) shall include information regarding additional funds, if any, that are needed in order to implement all or a portion of the plan.
